The secret ingredient that powers success

Stepped pathThere is a power, which we all hold, which allows us to move forward with our goals and plans. It is always with us and available to us whenever we need it. In fact, it marks out those people who succeed in life through their application of it. That power is intent. To access this power requires only one thing, which is focus.  The difference between those that succeed in life and those that struggle often lies in where they focus their intent. Our intentions develop into speech and actions that define our lives. It takes intent to live a life of action and achieve our goals.

Organisations fail when they lack coherent focus, spreading their efforts too thinly and not providing a clear reason for why the changes are needed. Successful companies by contrast, have a laser like focus on their priorities and make a clear link between the efforts needed and the rewards for success.

People with a weak focus on their goals, who find themselves starting many projects in the hope that one of them will prove successful, are likely to find themselves going around in circles. When a person has a strong focus, and can link their efforts to their goals and stay committed to their path, they will always succeed

The Focus to Succeed

Intent is the power that allows us to move forward with our goals and plans. The intensity and consistency of that focus can make the difference between succeeding and failing.

“Intention is the driving force in our life. It is the fuel of our actions and gives purpose to our goals.  To become intentional and live a life of meaningful action, we need to learn to harness our thoughts and the energy all around us.  If you have tried to make changes in your life but find yourself going around in circles or making little progress, learning how to harness your intent will make all the difference.”

When we struggle with achieving success, it can be to do with our beliefs.  If we hold self-limiting beliefs of what we are capable of, they will noiselessly weigh us down, creating a long shadow on all our efforts.

One of the ways that we can change our beliefs is through our actions and we can change these through our habits.  We can look to create new behaviours and habits that will create a new reality.

The word habit is often associated with ingrained or historic actions that can be difficult to break free from. Yet habit is merely a series of choices we have made along our journey to help us get to where we want to go.  Many of the habits we form are to make our life easier and to stop us having to think about endless choices.

The good news is that habits can be very easy to create, once you have put your intent and vision behind them.  We need to focus less on the effort of breaking bad habits and more on creating new healthier ones.

It takes only three weeks of daily practice for a new habit to form.  This means any area of your life where you are struggling right now, can be turned around simply by creating a new habit.

Make it Happen!

If you want intent to power your life to success, start by committing to a new habit that will help you achieve your goal.  It can be something simple, yet attainable.  For example:

  • If you feel you are constantly behind with your workload – create a habit of going in 15 minutes earlier and writing out a daily plan and to do list before your day starts.
  • If you don’t feel you have time to meditate – set your alarm 15 minutes earlier in the morning to give it more priority.
  • If you want to change your eating habits – set some simple and achievable eating rules you want to test out for the next three weeks.

Whilst forming your new habit, write down your observations during the three-week period and review the success and challenges along the way.  If it’s been successful, celebrate it.  If you need to make adjustments, commit to a new habit that has harnessed this learning.  The possibilities are endless and will help you to harness the power of intent to change your life.  Do share your experiences here.  I’d love to hear about your progress.
